Serving Christ in our Community and the World
The Missions Committee of First Presbyterian Church distributes the monetary blessings of our church budgeted and donated to the Missions Committee. Committee members give special attention to the Mission Statement of our church and prayerfully consider and evaluate all applications for financial assistance submitted by organizations perceived to be responsibly attempting to perform the Lord's work in Collier County, the State of Florida the United States and throughout the world.
St. Matthews House in Naples is a Christian ministry that feeds and reaches out to the homeless of Collier County. They provide meals and temporary housing. Thousands of meals are served each month.
The Guadalupe Center of Immokalee, Inc. (GCI) is a social and human service organization whose mission is to serve the economically disadvantaged of our community with interim help and long-term programs that promote self-sufficiency, opportunity, and community stability. GCI has been a steadfast companion on this journey, removing barriers, meeting challenges, providing nourishment, clothing, education, and support services for Immokalee's migrant families.
The Alzheimer’s Support Network of Naples works to support the families of those dealing with Alzheimer’s with a careivers’ resource center, monthly newsletter, support groups, special care room, monthly educational meetings, 24-hour help line, individual and family problem solving eeferrals, and Wanderer’s identification program in coordination with the Sheriff’s Department.
The Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida, Inc. provides people and families with various services such as: exercise therapy, speech therapy, education programs, educational literature, annual symposium, spiritual nursing, support groups, social functions, adult day care.
The Care Club of Collier County is the only licensed Adult Day Care Center in Collier County for people with Alzheimer’s Disease. Licensed for forty-one persons per day, the center is open Monday through Saturday. The Care Club allows families the opportunity to get small break from the constant job of watching out for their family members with Alzheimer’s Disease.
The Shelter for Abused Women of Collier County
helps adult and child victims and survivors of domestic violence through safety, intervention and support. The Naples facility is called the “Wings of Hope Center” and has a forty-bed emergency shelter and twenty transitional housing beds.
The Immokalee Child Care Center provides a positive nurturing daycare environment for the children of low income families in Immokalee. On average there are about one hundred children in the center during any given week.
Grace Place is a Christian organization which is ministers to the children of Golden Gate City. These children have been get the necessary support to grow and be educated in our community in ways that will assure they become productive citizens.
Around the World
Our sister Church in Guatemala, Central Presbyterian Church has a vital ministry in this Central American nation. People from First Pres. have traveled and shared in ministry with Central Church and the work and ministry of Central Pres. goes forward through gifts that we can share with them.
The Medical Benevolence Foundation works with our denomination to bring necessary people, surgeons, supplies and other critical ministries in the area of health to thousands around the world. They also bring the gospel to those they serve.
Mi Refugio is a wonderful Christian ministry in a very difficult place. About 1,000 people actually live in the huge Guatemala City dump and they compete with the birds of the air for the best garbage to eat. Mi Refugio is a ministry on the edge of the dump where the children of the dump can go for breakfast and for school where they are given a Christian education.
Pastor Erick and Blanca Cordero are our missionaries in Central America. Together they speak and minister to various Churches in Central America. Erick also pastors in San Jose and has founded various Churches in that large capital city of Costa Rica. Their ministry includes all age groups and they have developed numerous special teaching seminars for young children, youth and young married couples. Many people have come to Christ as a result of their faithful work in their native country. You may recall their visit with us at First Pres. a few years ago at Easter.
