Words from Aaron: Trusting God Through the Wilderness

Dear Members and Friends of First Presbyterian Church of Naples,

Have you ever been in the wilderness? That place where the path forward is uncertain, and even frightening?

Moving from Knowing God to Trusting God

This Sunday, I’ll explore how the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness was a process of becoming a people who not only knew God, but trusted God. The distinction between knowing and trusting matters. The Israelites knew that God had miraculously liberated them from Egypt, but as they journeyed through the wilderness, they had to learn to trust God as they moved toward an uncertain, but glorious, future.

We, too, are called to trust God in all circumstances. Whether we are experiencing joy or facing challenges, whether trust comes easily or is extremely difficult, as Christians striving to become more fully the people God intends us to be, we are called to trust. Trusting does not mean we accept the wilderness, but rather that we will navigate it trusting that somehow, someway, God will see us through it.

I hope you’ll join me for worship this Sunday beneath our beautiful cross, as together we seek to know more deeply the love revealed to us in Jesus Christ and learn more about how we can live like a people who not only know God, but trust God.
